Ties between North and South Korea are getting from bad to worse. The decision of President Lee to appoint Prof. Hyun In-taek, (of Korea University) as his unification minister has once again provoked North Korea to call names.

North Korea's official news media has called the appointment "an open provocation" and accused the South Korean government of pushing the¡± the inter-Korean relations deeper into the abyss of confrontation and ruin."

Statement also declared that "No one can predict what catastrophic onsequences will be entailed in the North-South relations¡± because of this appointment of hawkish conservative to this high position.

Relationship between two Koreas have been getting bad to worse since President lee took office a year ago. Very upset with lee¡¯s refusal to honor the pacts signed by previous Korean governments North Korea has cut off most of the business and political ties with South Korea and has called the president: "human scum."

In Korean academic and political circles Prof.Hyun is known as a very critical of reconciliatory "Sunshine Policy" espoused by Seoul's previous liberal leadership and is against the unconditional aid to North Korea
